About East Yorkshire Leathermen!

Our Story

How we got here . . .

In the early 1990's, a leather bar for primarily for gay men was set up at the back of a well known gay pub in Hull.  Over the course of a few weeks it attracted a small but dedicated group of guys.  This bar was short lived due to the personal situations of the pub managers and sadly the bar closed.

In 2022, a Facebook Group was set up called 'East Yorkshire Leather Social'.  Through advertising the group widely amongst other established Leather Groups, we started to grow.  Followers then commented that they would have preferred a different title and so though an online poll the name: 'East Yorkshire Leathermen' was adopted.

We began social events in September 2023 which were well support straight away by people who had been waiting for a club/group and a safe space to express themselves through their gear, be that leather, rubber, uniform, boots etc. etc.  Over time we gathered more followers on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

We have now become a fully constituted social group, with a committee.  We are dedicated to provide social events, activities and online line meetings to bring people together and tackle social isolation.   We are open to everyone 18 years of age and over regardless of sex, sexual orientation, sexual identity, race, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.

Tackling Isolation - Facilitating Connections

. . .

Through providing safe spaces for people to meet and express themselves through their gear and interests, we aim to facilitate lasting friendships and to help group members share experiences, pass on useful information, give practical advice, provide friendly support and signposting,  share tips on online safety and recent news items . . . oh yes,  and a bit of gossip too.

Using social media helps to connect people who maybe in more rural areas of East Yorkshire and surrounding regions.  Some of whom may not have immediate access to transport or may have little funds to use on public transport.  Taking events and meet-ups around the East Yorkshire region can help to provide access to those who would normally find it too difficult to access the Hull based socials.
